How to Style an Oversized Hoodie — Looks for Autumn and Winter
As soon as the mornings turn cool, the hoodie moves back to the front of the wardrobe. The catch: a loose hoodie can easily look like you never left the sofa if the rest of the outfit doesn't play along. A few simple rules are enough to make it look intentional – as your top layer in autumn, under a jacket in winter. Here are combinations that genuinely work with a hoodie, a zip hoodie and a sweatshirt.
First things first: quiet front, motif on the back
At REVØRA the big motif sits on the back, while the front usually just carries a small "RØ". That changes how you style it. From the front the hoodie reads almost like a basic, so your trousers or jacket can have a bit more character. From behind, the print tells the story – on the Nice In January Hoodie, for example, a bistro table with an espresso, a wool scarf, palm trees and winter sun over the sea. In winter that means the motif appears exactly when you take your jacket off in the café or bar. Which is exactly the point.
Look 1: hoodie, straight trousers, sneakers
The everyday classic. Our hoodies have a relaxed fit, so they sit loose, with ribbed cuffs and hem. The ribbed hem gathers the fabric at the hip – volume on top, a clean line below. Pair it with straight-leg jeans or chinos. Don't go too skinny, or the silhouette quickly looks top-heavy. If you want a stronger oversized effect, go one size up and let the sleeves bunch slightly. Add simple sneakers or leather boots and you're done.
About the fabric: 70 % cotton and 30 % polyester (65/35 in Heather Grey), made as a three-end fleece at 340 g/m² – the outer face is pure cotton, the inside is brushed. The three-panel hood has no drawcord, which keeps the front clean. One example is the Nice In January Hoodie in Black, French Navy, Heather Grey or White.
Look 2: layering with a tee and a jacket
For in-between days: a white or black T-shirt underneath, with a little of its hem showing below the hoodie. It breaks up the surface and looks deliberately styled. If you'd rather wear long sleeves underneath, reach for a longsleeve – ours are a men's cut, slightly tapered and deliberately not oversized, so nothing bulks up under the loose hoodie.
When it gets colder, add a jacket on top. Lay the hood over the collar so the hoodie stays part of the look. A bomber works well: REVØRA's bomber jackets (men's fit, in Black or Union Beige) have elastic ribbing at the collar, cuffs and hem, plus an orange lining. The standard version carries the "REVØRA" lettering on the back below the collar, while on the Clean version the back stays completely blank – a calm choice if you want the print to make its entrance only once the jacket comes off.
Look 3: the zip hoodie as a mid-layer
The zip hoodie is the more versatile piece. Worn open over a tee, it's your jacket in autumn; zipped up under a coat, it becomes the mid-layer. The Hiver au Sud Zip Hoodie is made from French terry at 280 g/m², regular fit in a men's cut, with a concealed metal zip and a drawcord hood. On the left chest sits a round emblem reading "HIVER AU SUD · RØ", while the back carries the large motif with palm tree, sun, sea and lemon. Because it isn't as loose as the hoodies, it also fits nicely under a straight-cut wool coat. Colours: Black, French Navy and Off White.
Look 4: the sweatshirt, when it should look a little sharper
Lose the hood and everything instantly looks a touch more grown-up. A sweatshirt over a shirt with the collar peeking out, plus wool trousers or dark jeans and boots – that works for a relaxed office as well as for dinner. Our sweatshirts are regular fit and unisex, made from a 280 g/m² fleece that is brushed on the inside, with ribbing at the collar, cuffs and hem. The Citrons d'Hiver Sweatshirt carries the "Citrons d'Hiver" lettering with a lemon branch on the back, and "Récolte de Février" underneath. Alongside Black, French Navy and Heather Grey, the sweatshirts also come in Natural Raw – a light natural tone that looks pleasantly calm with navy and brown.
Colours that work without thinking
Tone on tone is a safe bet in winter: a French Navy hoodie with dark blue jeans, Heather Grey with grey wool trousers. Black goes with almost everything, but looks fresher with light sneakers than in an all-dark outfit. Light pieces in White, Off White or Natural Raw need a dark counterpart below, otherwise the look can quickly turn washed out. And if you want an accessory that echoes the small "RØ" on the chest: the RØ Dad Cap is low profile, made from 100 % cotton and comes in Beige, Black, Desert Sand and French Navy.
A quick word on care
To keep the back print looking good for a long time: wash inside out, don't bleach and don't iron over the print. The hoodies can go in at 30 °C. The sweatshirts can go in at 40 °C, but keep them out of the dryer and dry them flat. You'll find the exact instructions on each product page.
