Riviera style — why the Italian summer look is so simple

RevøraItaly · Riviera · Summer · Style

The summer look of the Italian coast looks expensive and rarely is. It consists of few pieces, few colours and a clear attitude: nothing should look as though it took long to think about.

The colour palette

Off-white, sand tones, a deep blue, plus a single accent — lemon yellow, terracotta, a washed-out green. Nothing more. The reason is practical: in harsh midday light, strong colours look garish; muted tones don't.

The pieces

  • A loosely cut T-shirt made of pure cotton
  • Light, straight trousers in sand or white
  • An open shirt as a second layer for the evening
  • Leather instead of plastic for sandals and belt
  • Sunglasses with a simple shape

Why washed-out colours look better

Clothing on the coast visibly ages — salt, sun, constant washing. The aesthetic anticipates that. Garment-dyed pieces have exactly this slightly washed tone from the start, because the dye goes into the finished garment rather than the yarn. That's why two shirts of the same colour are never exactly alike. Our shirts are not garment-dyed — they get their calm look from the choice of colour, such as Natural Raw, Heather Grey or French Navy.

The mistake to avoid

Too much theme. Stripes, anchors, palm trees and lemons all at once make a costume. One motif is enough; the rest stays quiet.

And in the evening

Less changes than you'd think. The same shirt, long trousers instead of shorts, closed shoes. The look is deliberately built so that you don't need to change.

Our Riviera category collects exactly these motifs — citrus fruit, coast, Italian phrases. Azur Club is its slightly louder sister.
